genesis.

In the beginning, there were my dreams.

I seek lucidity when I'm dreaming. Doing so is just as complicated as it may sound for me personally. Some people automatically notice they are dreaming and can, therefor, do whatever they wish. They can fly to a place they've wanted to return to in their waking life. They can have conversations with a deceased loved one. They can venture into an entirely different galaxy.

There is something to be said about this ability, and the experiences, conversations, and contacts made during this time. I believe lucidity is greatly underrated, and is one of the secrets to life.

It starts with dream recall. Once I have been able to recall a few dreams per night over a couple weeks span, I will be able to notice specific "dream signs" that let me know I am dreaming. These signs vary among different people in abnormality and frequency altogether, so I must know my personal dream signs.

When I was younger, I would only realize I was dreaming toward the end of my dreams. I'd have a brisk moment of lucidity, then be helplessly conscious and awake. Before this happens, I'd be unable to do one of a few things such as scream or jump, fly, or move quickly. I believed those to be the first of my personal dream signs, but I developed even more, less tentative signs as I began to document my dreams immediately after their occurrence.

I am normally aware that I have had more than just a couple dreams, but it almost seems as though my memory of the first ones are erased once the new ones begin, and therefore, they are fresher in my memory. It would be useless to have a lucid dream if I can't even recall it.
The discipline required to actually wake up and type all these things out upon awakening from a deep sleep is not something I ever thought I would have. But, as the dreams intensify, so did my yearning to write them down so that they may be remembered.

I began to notice that certain dreams, no matter what I did, remained out of my control. This is where it started getting really interesting for me. I would know that I was dreaming, having fake conversations with people, in a totally made-up place, but I would not be able to control it. My dream signs, dream triggers, were going off all around me but I was still existing in said dream, completely dependent on my surroundings and events that played out against my will. These are the dreams that I believe foretold events. However small and seemingly unimportant and trivial, they did come to pass.

My mind is developing in a way I cannot explain... It amazes me.
